What tools do I need for applying microcement?

The basics are a suitable trowel, abrasive, roller for primer or varnish, masking tapes and aids for cleaning, mixing and dust extraction. Specific equipment depends on the type of project.

Is regular DIY store equipment sufficient?

For some auxiliary tasks yes, but for final layers of microcement it is worthwhile to use suitable tools. A poor trowel, roller or abrasive can be visible on the finished surface.

What kind of trowel is suitable for microcement?

Flexible trowels are often used for final layers. For light shades, a plastic trowel may be suitable, which limits metal marks and dark streaks.

Does microcement have to be sanded?

Yes, sanding is a common part of application. It helps remove small edges, unify the surface and prepare it for the next layer or final protection.

What roller should be used for varnish or sealer?

Use a roller suitable for the specific protective layer. It must apply an even film, not shed fibres and not leave a pronounced texture in the varnish.

Why use masking tapes?

Masking tapes protect surrounding areas and help create a clean finish of microcement, varnish or sealer. They are very important in bathrooms, kitchens and detailed areas.
