Decorative plasters · walls · floors · bathrooms

One material for a calm, seamless and distinctive interior

Decorative plaster is a general term for thin-layer finishing systems with a smooth or textured appearance. Depending on the specific composition, it can be used on feature walls, floors, stairs, bathrooms, commercial interiors, and with proper preparation also on solid existing tiles or cladding.

Smooth or textured finish The final character can be adapted to minimalist, industrial or natural interiors.

Sets customised by m²The complete system can be tailored according to the surface area.

Why choose decorative plaster

A surface that is not just a background but part of the interior architecture

Decorative plaster makes sense where you don’t want ordinary paint or tiling but a material with depth, delicate veining and a handcrafted character.

Seamless surface

Without the typical division by tiles and joints that would disrupt large areas.

Handcrafted veining

Each project is unique. Subtle changes in texture and shade give the surface depth.

Suitable for renovations

The thin layer allows walls and floors to be renewed without unnecessary structural buildup.

Durable final protection

A properly chosen sealant protects the surface depending on use on walls, floors or in bathrooms.

The same material can look subtle and calm, industrial, luxurious or bold – depending on colour, texture and neighbouring materials.

What exactly are you buying

Decorative plaster is not a single layer, but an interrelated system

Decorative plaster is a thin-layer surface system designed to create a smooth or textured mineral finish. The result is formed by hand application, and therefore does not appear uniform like paint, laminate or industrially made tiles.

The system's function depends on proper substrate preparation, priming, base coat, decorative plaster, pore sealing and final protection. The composition varies depending on whether it is for walls, floors, bathrooms or exterior use.

Thanks to its low thickness, the system can be applied on concrete, plaster, plasterboard, building boards and solid ceramic tiles. However, the substrate must be dry, cohesive, even and free of active cracks. Detailed requirements are summarised in the article How to prepare the substrate for microcement and concrete plaster.

Important: the final appearance is determined by the applicator. The technology can be standardised, but the delicate veining and texture will always be the result of manual work.

Smooth or textured finish

Two basic approaches to a completely different result

The choice of system and the method of trowelling decide whether the surface will appear subtle, elegant or markedly mineral.

Smooth finish

Minimalist, calm and finely textured surface

  • suitable for modern and clean interiors
  • finer veining and lower relief
  • easier maintenance on large surfaces
  • works well with both light and deeper shades
Textured finish

More pronounced mineral character and greater plasticity

  • suitable for feature and dominant walls
  • distinct traces of hand application
  • works well with directional lighting
  • naturally complements wood, metal and stone

Usage possibilities

Where decorative microcement can be used

A correctly designed system can be adapted for lightly loaded walls, floors, wet areas and even demanding commercial use.

Aqua Nature: a universal system for walls, floors and bathrooms

Aqua Nature is a coarser final microcement skim coat with a natural mineral texture. It is used as part of a complete system, the build-up of which adapts to the substrate and the future surface load.

Cost estimate

How much does decorative microcement cost

The price depends on the area, substrate condition, desired texture, amount of detail, and mainly whether it is a wall, floor or bathroom.

DIY application

Complete material according to area

Set according to actual m²

With a system set, you don’t need to calculate separately the consumption of primer, base layers, decorative microcement and final protection.

  • consecutive system layers in one solution
  • choice of smooth or textured finish
  • substrate repairs, waterproofing and levelling handled separately
  • Czech technical application support
Professional installation

Material and applicator labour

According to surface type

Indicative price varies significantly by use. Decorative walls are usually cheaper than showers, floors or stairs. Small, complex and highly textured surfaces tend to have a higher price per m².

  • condition and necessary repairs of the original substrate
  • required texture and complexity of the finish
  • corners, niches, stairs, edges and other details
  • type of final protection and anticipated loading

What it’s good to know before deciding

Decorative microcement can be durable and long-term stable, but the final appearance and functionality depend on the substrate and quality of execution.

  • Every surface is unique. Hand-crafted patterns and subtle shade differences are not manufacturing defects.
  • The substrate must be stable. Active cracks, hollow spots and moisture must be resolved beforehand.
  • Wall and floor are not the same application. Floors require a more robust build-up and final protection.
  • Textured surfaces are harder to clean than smooth ones. It is advisable to choose it according to anticipated use.
  • The final varnish wears over time. On heavily loaded surfaces, the protection can be restored later.

Frequently asked questions

Decorative microcement – FAQ

Practical answers about use, substrate, tiling, bathrooms, thickness and DIY application.

What is decorative microcement?
It is a thin-layer surface system creating a smooth or textured mineral finish on walls, floors and other stable substrates.
Is decorative microcement suitable for bathrooms?
Yes, provided the correct system build-up is used; in showers the substrate is protected by waterproofing and the final surface sealed with two coats of Gela Cryl TR100 and two coats of 2K PU varnish.
Can it be applied on old tiles or cladding?
Yes, if the ceramic tiles are firmly bonded and there are no hollow or cracked parts. The surface must be degreased, roughened and properly unified.
What is the total thickness of the system?
The complete thickness is usually approximately 1.5–3 mm depending on the substrate and chosen system.
Is a smooth or textured microcement better?
The smooth option is more practical for maintenance and has a minimalist appearance. The textured option creates a more distinctive finish and is mainly suitable for feature walls.
Can I apply it myself?
Yes, with suitable systems it is possible. However, it is recommended to start with a test set, work initially on a small area and strictly follow the technical procedure.
