Can I apply microcement on impregnated plasterboard?
Updated: 15.07.2026
✓
Yes, provided the structure is stable and the surface is properly prepared and primed.
Detailed answer
Impregnated plasterboard is more suitable for damp environments than ordinary plasterboard, but it still must be stable. In bathrooms, waterproofing and joint detail treatment are also necessary. Therefore, it is not only about the type of substrate, but mainly its condition. Before application, check for strength, flatness, grease, dust, cracks, and any movement. If the surface is at risk, it is better to reinforce it or first create a test patch. We generally recommend using high-quality reinforcing tapes and high-quality filling to a Q2 level, followed by sanding, dust vacuuming, and thorough surface priming. Alternatively, we recommend overall skim coating with adhesive and mesh.
Common mistakes
- applying on dusty or non-cohesive substrate
- neglecting inspection of hollow spots and cracks
- insufficient degreasing and priming
